8. Care and Maintenance

8. Care and Maintenance of Powder-Coated and Anodized Aluminium Surfaces: Thorough cleaning of coated and anodized surfaces is required in order to - conserve the decorative looks of the surface - reduce the stress of corrosion on the outside The following minimum requirements have to be heeded: 1. Proper protection of surfaces: During the installation and construction period all surfaces must be properly protected (e.g. by fully draping) in order to prevent harmful factors from even possibly sticking to the surface (such as, e.g. PU foam, mortar, cement and glue residue). This will prove the foundation of an unimpaired and pristine surface. 2. Intervals for checkups, care and cleaning: Permanent surface damage (e.g. corrosion, chalking, etc.) and even a complete loss of any decorative aesthetic may be the result of a complete lack of cleaning of a component during use, or even irregular or erroneous cleaning. Therefore, the preservation of value and function of any component can only be guaranteed if it is cleaned regularly and more frequently throughout its lifespan, depending on the gravity of staining (environmental factors and location). We recommend a 3-month interval for checkups, care and cleaning! 3. Cleaning instructions for powder-coated and anodized surfaces: • Rinse the surface with pure cold water (adding neutralizing agents (pH7) if necessary) to remove all loose particles of dirt, dust and sand. • Lather the surface with a neutralizing soap solution using a sponge, microfiber cloth or a soft brush that will not harm the surface; allow it to settle briefly, then wipe off using soft, non-abrasive cloths, rags or industrial cotton balls. • Do not allow to settle for more than one hour! • Avoid strong rubbing! • Rinse thoroughly (with cold, pure running water) • Possibly repeat this procedure after a 24-hour period if there is major dirt. • Use testing gasoline free of aromatic compounds or isopropyle alcohol (IPA) to remove greasy, oily or sooty substances. Glue, silicone rubber or tape residue may also be removed this way. • Do not apply any solvents containing the following: ether, ketones, polyvalent alcohol, aromatic compounds, glycol ether or alkyl halides. • Should caulking compounds and other assisting material such as glazing aids, glide, drill and cutting means etc. come into contact with coated • surfaces, these have to be pH neutral and free of substances harmful to the finish. An aptitude check has to be performed prior to use! • An aptitude needs to be conducted for metallic coats, as there is a risk of a change in color or effect. 10 KATZBECK-MANUAL

• Do not use scratching, abrasive agents. • Do not use strongly acidic or alkali cleaning or wetting agents. • Do not use any cleaning agents of unknown consistency. • The temperature of the cleaning agent as well as of the surface may not exceed 25°C. • Do not use high-pressure cleaners or steam cleaners. 9. Care and maintenance of plastic surfaces In order to prevent long-lasting and tenacious contamination, dirt, which has built up on surfaces has to be removed on a regular basis. The frequency depends on the intensity of dirtying and has to be adjusted accordingly in every case. In order to preserve the impeccable looks of the surface it is absolutely necessary to clean regularly and at short intervals, especially in areas featuring strong pollution or in exposed places (in the vicinity of rail lines, heavy industry, etc.). Use water in connection with soap-based liquid and mild cleansing agents for cleaning. Never use scouring and/or solvent-based cleansing agents, also do not apply gasoline, nitro thinner etc., as these will permanently infringe and damage the surface. KATZBECK-MANUAL 11
